Litha 2026

The Sunday before last (21st June) it was Litha aka the Summer Solstice. I usually celebrate this sabbat by making salad and lemonade. However, this year I couldn’t get hold of lemons easily (left it a bit last minute) so I made limeade instead, lol.

I normally make tomato and onion salad for Litha. My favourite recipe is from The Kitchen Witch book by Soraya. Last year I'd lost the book, so I partly based my salad on a recipe from This Italian Kitchen. I've found the book since then though, so this year it was back to the usual recipe!

I had he salad for lunch along with some food from the supermarket- chicken drumsticks, garlic ciabatta slices, Doritos and guacamole. It was quite nice. Here's a pic:

I'd planned to make lemonade (I normally make "Hello Kitty lemonade" from a recipe n a Hello Kitty nook) but I did an online hopping order and they didn't have any lemons and replaced them with limes. So I made limeade instead! It's basically the same recipe, with water and sugar. You can just about see it in the picture above. :)

In the evening I went to the park for sunset. You can't always see it so well in the park depending on the angle, but I got some nice photos. Here are a couple:

When I got back I lit a white candle because Litha is a fire festival and the longest day of the year. I used to use yellow or orange candles for "sun colours" but these days I more often use white ones because they're more easily available (I used to get them from a local shop or a garden centre). Maybe next year I'll buy some online though.

So now it's "officially" summer. The weather has been varied (similar to other years) but we've had two heatwaves in the UK so far this year. The first was last month (which saw some of the hottest temperatures on record for May) and then we had another one this month, which set a record for June with the highest temperature being 37.3C (99.14F) in Suffolk. In Sussex, it got up to about 31C (87F). Now i's cooler with the temperature around 21C (69F) at the most.

The next sabbat will be Lammas (one of my favourites) on 1st August. I'll do a post about my celebrations and I'm also planning to write my spring-summer updates soon.

Hope you had a good Litha and Happy Summer! :) (Or hope you had a good Yule and Happy Winter if you're in the Southern Hemisphere!)
