Beltane 2026

The Friday before last (1st May) it was Beltane. (Some people celebrate from sundown on 30th April to sundown on 1st May.) I usually make guacamole or salad for this sabbat. In recent years I've tended to make a salad and buy guacamole) most often kachumbari (Kenyan tomato and onion salad). But in 2019 I made both.

Tis uear I decided to make an avocado salad, which I've made a couple of times before. The recipe is from Precious Core (whose recipe for kchumari I also use): https://www.preciouscore.com/simple-healthy-avocado-salad/

It's similar to kachumbari (I shared both of them in my Salads for Beltane + Extra Ideas! post in 2024). I had it for my lunch with some ciabatta rolls, savoury eggs, feta parcels, chicken sausages, sea salt and vinegar crisps, and onion and garlic dip.

Here's a pic:

The cutlery got in the salad a bit!

I had it with some Kimura Ramuna lemonade. It's a Japanese drink and I've had similar ones before. They're a bit complicated to open becaus they have a marble inside and you have to push it down and inside the bottle! I most often have an elderflower drink for Beltane but sometimes lemonade.

In the evening I went to the beach for sunset. I ended up being a bit later than planned and the sunset was going, plus you coudfn't see it so well from the beach that day. Never mind! I still got some nice photos. Here are a couple:

Sunset on Lancing Beach.

As with previous years, I took some tealights on the beach but the wind was too strong to light them properly. So I lit one when I got home and also a white candle.

So now we're in mid-spring. It seems to have come round again quickly! The weather has been varied in the past couple of months but yesterday it finally felt more like we're moving towards summer. It was 16C (60F) in my area and sunny. However, today, it's been colder and rainy again! lol.

Around this time of year is usually when I feel a "shift" as the atmosphere lightens and the days continue to get longer. The next sabbat will be Litha/the Summer Solstice (21st June this year) and the "official"start of summer. I will write a post about my celebrations.

Hope you had a good Beltane! (Or hope you had a good Samhain!) :)
