Autumn-Winter Update (2022)

It's time for my last seasonal update of the year (2022), autumn to winter! For the past couple of years, I've written quarterly (season to season) updates on the blog, which I found easier to keep up with than the monthly updates I did in 2019 and the "two monthly"(two months at a time) ones in 2020.

You can see my previous updates for 2022 at the links below:

Summer-Autumn Update (2022): https://livingseasonal.blogspot.com/2022/10/summer-autumn-update-2022.html

I mentioned in my summer-autumn update that in September I went to a belly dance class in Brighton taught by Nadia Undine. I'm not currently able to go regularly, but I did attend another class in November.

I also started going to Meetup events again in Sept, to Happy Cafe meetups, part of the group Action for Happiness. Before the pandemic I used to go to my local one. That never started up again but there are now face to face Happy Cafe meetups in Brighton again, so I've been going to those during the autumn and winter. It's been good to get back to that. The Happy Cafes have moved from the Brighton Beach Club to a pub for the winter.

In my Summer-Autumn Update post I wrote about Liz Truss becoming our new Prime Minister in September. She ended up only being PM for less than two months before resigning in October! She was replaced by Rishi Sunak. I wrote a bit more about it in the Letting Go of 2022 post on my self-help/spiritual blog Falling Petals.

In October I went to Wendy's again. A new restaurant opened in Brighton in the spring (2022) and I went for the first time in April. The food is nice and the Frosty drinks, plus it's cheaper than Five Guys, which I only go to about once a year (mainly due to the price)!

I also went to Lancing Beach in October for sunset. I went for a walk and took some pics. I just caught the tail end of the sunset that day:

Then at the end of October I celebrated Hallowe'en/Samhain. You can read my post about it here: https://livingseasonal.blogspot.com/2022/11/halloweensamhain-2022.html

I usually go to the Bonfire Night firework display at Lancing Beach Green in early November. However, this year it ended up being cancelled due to really strong winds. The funfair was still open though, so I got some food from there.

In November I went to Caffe Nero in Hove and Creams Cafe (an ice cream/dessert place) in Brighton. It was my first time going to Creams. I got a coffee arabica Scoop Shake and warm cookie dough with vanilla ice cream. My favourite was the shake and I actually got one again last week!

In early December I went to Haskins Roundstone garden centre to look at the Christmas decorations and buy some presents. And then I went Christmas shopping in Worthing later that month and to Wimpy afterwards.

Apart from that I did my usual weekly park walks during the last quarter of the year and went to the library and the supermarket. Here's a photo I took in the park in late November:

Late autumn in Hove Park.

On 21st December I celebrated Yule/the Winter Solstice. You can read my post about it here: https://livingseasonal.blogspot.com/2023/01/yule-2022.html

I didn't have that good a Christmas (due to personal reasons) and didn't do any baking like I planned to, so there's no Christmas baking post. However, I am planning to bake these gingerbread cookie bars (which I wanted to make over the festive period) soon. New Year was a bit better in general.

We had some really cold weather at the end of the year and quite a lot of the UK got snow. There wasn't much in my area of Sussex though, despite some other areas getting a lot. There was a lot of wind and rain which started on Hallowe'en and then it went colder. It's been warmer lately, about 8C (46F) during the day, going down to around 3C (37F) some nights.

Update 17/1/23: Just after I wrote this, it went cold again! It's now about 3C during the day and -1C (30F) at night. It will get a bit warmer later this week though.

So that's it for the 2022 updates! I will probably do quarterly updates again this year. In the Yule 2022 post I mentioned that I will probably be scaling down my posts with ideas for celebrating the sabbats during 2023. I've done quite a few of them over the years and I don't want to keep writing the same thing. I have a couple more to do to complete my latest series of celebration posts.

I will still write about my celebrations for each festival and maybe do a quick post in advance of them too sometimes. If I am writing less posts, I may decide to do more seasonal updates (e.g., two months at a time like I did in 2020. I'll see how it goes. :)

I also write mid-year and year-end posts over on Falling Petals, and other posts related to self-help and spiritual topics, so feel free to visit that if those subjects are your sort of thing: https://fallingpetalsuk.blogspot.com/

Of if you like music, films and dance etc., you're welcome to visit my entertainment blog Star Sparkle Blog: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/
