Litha 2018

It was Litha aka the Summer Solstice/Midsummer last Thursday and I celebrated by making lemonade and salad. As I mentioned in my Celebrating Litha + Summer post, I made some tomato and onion salad, a recipe from The Kitchen Witch book by Soraya. It has to chill in the fridge for at least an hour, but I made it the night before because I had a busy day. I had some of the salad with avocado on toast and bacon. Here's a picture:

I made more than this, just had a bit with lunch.

In the afternoon I made "Hello Kitty lemonade" (recipe is from a book called Hello Kitty's Little Book of Big Ideas!) and lit an orange candle in the evening. Last year I had a yellow candle for Litha and an orange one for Lammas, but there weren't any yellow ones at my local garden centre this year. Here's a pic of the candle:

There are also fairy lights and a witches' hat decoration!

I also watched Tess Whitehurst' Summer Solstice Affirmations video and said the affirmations. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jphe33TmngY (Blog post is now gone but the video is still on YouTube)

The next evening I went up to my local nature reserve and took some sunset photos:

And I made some rice pudding as well, the same as last year.

Summer is my favourite time of year, so I'm happy that it's officially started. It seems weird that we're already at the end of June and halfway through the year! Now we've had the longest day, we'll gradually lose daylight by about a minute every 3 days until Madron (or Mabon) aka the Autumn Equinox. (After that the days will be shorter by about 3 minutes until Yule/the Winter Solstice, when they'll start to get longer again.)  But there's still the whole of summer to go. Next sabbat will be Lammas, one of my faves. :)

Hope you had a good Litha/Summer Solstice if you celebrated! :) If you'd like some ideas for celebrating summer as well, visit this post: https://livingseasonal.blogspot.com/2018/06/celebrating-litha-summer.html

Or hope you had a good Yule/Winter Solstice if you're in the Southern Hemipshere! I haven't yet done a post about celebrating winter, but I plan to later this year. :)

    1. Hi Elizabeth, thank you for your comment. Glad you like the photos! :) I know what you mean, I love summer too and feel a bit sad that the days are getting shorter as well. By the time we get to August I can already feel autumn coming. It's one of my fave months though. xx
